Duncan, McNeil earn year’s first NESCAC field performer honors
LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College track and field teams swept the NESCAC Field Athlete of the Week awards on Monday, as the first NESCAC Track & Field Performer of the Week honors were named.
Bates seniors Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) and Rich McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) took home the honors after their standout performances on Saturday in a tri-meet at the University of Maine against New Hampshire and the host Black Bears.
Duncan was first in the shot put at the meet with a top effort of 42-07, and she also came in second in the discus throw (117-04).
McNeil won the hammer throw at the meet, and met provisional qualification standards for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the process, with a distance of 173-11. McNeil also placed second in the shot put (50-04.50) and in the discus throw (147-07).
Duncan was recently named Northeast Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. Assistant coach Joe Woodhead, who coaches both Duncan and McNeil in the weight throw and hammer throw, was named the Northeast’s Assistant Women’s Indoor Field Coach of the Year the same day.
