No. 11 Polar Bears prevail over women’s tennis
BRUNSWICK, Maine — No. 11 nationally ranked Bowdoin played host to the Bates College women’s tennis team on Wednesday, and dealt the visiting Bobcats a 9-0 defeat in NESCAC play.
Bates’ top doubles team of senior Alex Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.) and sophomore Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) were edged by a 9-8 score in the closest match of the day. Bates also put up good fights at fifth and sixth singles, where sophomore Erika Blauth (Camden, Maine) and first-year Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) lost by scores of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.
Bates (6-3, 1-2 NESCAC) welcomes Connecticut College to the Wallach Tennis Center on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a Saturday match against Amherst at 10 a.m.
