Rookie Bettles wins two points for men’s tennis at Bowdoin
BRUNSWICK, Maine — The No. 26 Bates College men’s tennis team fell by a 7-2 score at No. 14-ranked Bowdoin on Friday, with first-year Matt Bettles figuring in both of the Bobcats’ points.
Bettles (Taunton, England) teamed up with senior Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) to defeat Bowdoin’s top doubles team, Jamie Neely and Stephen Sullivan, 8-6. He proceeded to win handily at third singles, 6-2, 6-2 over Tyler Anderson.
Bates plays host to Tufts on Sunday at 12 p.m. in the regular-season finale, possibly needing a win to make the six-team field of the NESCAC Men’s Tennis Championship.
