Rupasinghe, Bettles earn All-NESCAC honors in men’s tennis
HADLEY, Mass. — Bates senior Amrit Rupasinghe and first-year player Matt Bettles both received all-conference honors on Friday as the New England Small College Athletic Conference released its All-NESCAC Men’s Tennis Team.
Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) was named Second Team All-NESCAC as both a singles and doubles player, while Bettles (Taunton, England) earned his first all-conference honors, also as a Second Team doubles player.
Rupasinghe and Bettles were the fourth-rated doubles pair in the Northeast Region in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s latest rankings. The duo built a 7-6 record as Bates’ top doubles team over its final 13 matches, including wins over such highly ranked teams as Kenyon and Bowdoin. During invitational play in the fall, the pair went 8-2.
Rupasinghe, a three-time All-American and last year’s NCAA doubles champion with former partner Ben Stein ’09, went 10-6 in dual play while playing No. 1 singles for the Bobcats in 2010. He finishes his career as a six-time All-NESCAC honoree, having won all-conference honors in both singles and doubles as a sophomore, junior and now senior.
