LEWISTON, Maine — The main event of Parents & Family Weekend, at least in terms of Bates athletics, may be the football team’s home opener on the newly renovated Garcelon Field. But there’s a lot of other Bates athletic events going on around and beyond campus this weekend, too.
The football game against Williams, along with the pregame and halftime ceremonies dedicating the Garcelon renovation, can be followed via live video webcast, free of charge, with Al Harvie ’65 calling the game. The game (read the preview here) will also feature continuously updated, new and improved Live Stats.
The men’s and women’s soccer and field hockey teams all play Williams on Saturday as well, and all of these games can be followed via live video webcast as well, free of charge. Bates field hockey hosts Williams at 11 a.m. on Campus Avenue Field. At Russell Street Field, men’s soccer takes on the Ephs at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s teams squaring off at 2 p.m.
Also at home this weekend is the annual Wallach Men’s Tennis Invitational, featuring many of the top Division III players in the Northeast. Competition in four singles brackets (A, B, C, D) and two doubles brackets (A, B) starts at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at the Wallach Tennis Center.
Men’s and women’s cross country enter the championships portion of their schedule, after a week off from competition, at the all-divisions Open New England Championships, held at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday.
The Bates men’s and women’s rowing teams open their abbreviated fall competition schedule at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday.
Bates volleyball has a NESCAC weekend at Williams, with a match against Hamilton Friday night at 8 p.m. and a match against the host Ephs on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Women’s golf competes at the Williams Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday; men’s golf will play in an intrasquad match play tournament on Sunday afternoon at Martindale Country Club, in Auburn.
