Hot Engineers top volleyball team at MIT Quad
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Institute of Technology won its fifth straight match on Friday night against the Bates College volleyball team, defeating the Bobcats 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) in both teams’ first match of the MIT Quad tournament. The host Engineers rose to 15-9.
Bates (6-12) will play two more matches at MIT on Saturday: against Lebanon Valley at 10 a.m., then against No. 25 nationally ranked UMass-Boston at 2 p.m.
Sophomore Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) had six kills and eight digs for the Bobcats, while sophomore Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) accumulated seven kills and one block, and junior Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) had seven kills with 11 digs. First-year Jennifer Youngpeter (Mobile, Ala.) accumulated four kills and nine digs to go with 18 assists.
