BRUNSWICK, Maine — First-year Noah Graboys finished second overall to lead the Bates men’s cross country team to second place out of 10 teams at the State of Maine Championships Saturday at Bowdoin. It is Bates’ highest finish at the meet since also finishing second in 2006, breaking a chain of three-straight third-place showings.
Bowdoin, ranked No. 2 in New England by the USTFCCCA, won the meet with 23 points, with Bates, ranked No. 6 in New England, close behind with 36, followed by Southern Maine (87), Colby, the University of New England, Maine Maritime, UMaine-Farmington, St. Joseph’s, UMaine-Presque Isle and Thomas.
Graboys (Glencoe, Ill.) finished the 5-mile course in 25:43.74, less than a second behind Bowdoin rookie Coby Horowitz for the individual title.
Three of Graboys’ teammates also earned All-State honors for finishing among the top 10 out of 140 runners. Senior Devin Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.) placed fourth in 25:57.31, after coming in third for two straight years at the same meet. First-year Tully Hannan (West Hartford, Conn.) was seventh in 26:16.40, and junior Sean Colligan (Goffstown, N.H.) placed ninth in 26:25.80.
