Holmes, Burke, Brunk compete at NEWITT tournament
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — Three players from the Bates women’s tennis team continued play in the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament on Saturday at Mount Holyoke and Amherst colleges.
Sophomore Jacqui Holmes (Harvard, Mass.), following a first-round win on Friday, lost 3-0 to Nancy Worley of Williams in the Round of 16 of the Gail Smith A Flight at Mount Holyoke. Holmes was then defeated 3-0 in the A flight 2nd Round Consolation Bracket.
Sophomore Jenna Burke (Burlington, Mass.) was defeated 2-1 by Becca Heupel of Connecticut College in the A flight 1st Round Consolation bracket at Amherst.
Bates sophomore Ashley Brunk (Phoenix, Ariz.) lost 2-1 to Mount Holyoke’s Natalie Hsiang in the Round of 16 of the Chris Davis B Flight on Saturday at Mount Holyoke.
Jacqui Holmes defeated Maile Macleod of Simmons College 2-1 on Friday at Smith College in the first round of Gail Smith A Flight play.
Also in the Gail Smith A Flight, Burke was defeated 3-0 by Sarah Geocaris of Wheaton in the first round.
Also on Friday at Smith, in the Chris Davis B Flight, Brunk defeated Emily Mongello of Curry 3-0, advancing to play Hsiang in the Round of 16.
