HADLEY, Mass. — Bates College junior linebacker Kevin Helm (Norwell, Mass.) was named the NESCAC Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Sharing the award with Helm is Trinity senior Thomas Kilgore.
During the Bobcats’ season-ending 28-18 win over Hamilton yesterday, Helm had a career-high 18 tackles (14 solo), including 2.5 tackles for a loss, to spearhead a Bates defense that limited Hamilton to negative rushing yardage as a team until its final possession. The Continentals finished with 20 yards on the ground on 37 attempts.
Helm’s 18 tackles were the most by a Bates player in over five years. He finished the season with more solo tackles credited to him (53) than any other player in the NESCAC, and he tied senior teammate Myles Walker (Needham, Mass.) and Cyprian Oyomba of Wesleyan for the conference lead in total tackles, with 80.
