Senior Kerri Leonhardtled the way for the Bates women’s cross country team Saturday at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship, winning all-region honors as the Bobcats took 11th place out of 51 teams. It was, remarkably, Leonhardt’s (Milford, N.J.) first time competing at the New England Regionals. She earned All-New England honors (top 35) by finishing 33rd among 336 competitors, covering the 6-kilometer course at Mt. Greylock High School in a personal record time of 23:25.1. The senior captain was at about 55th place after the first mile, but she steadily passed competitor after competitor, eventually moving up to 33rd place in the best race of her career.
Leonhardt is only Bates’ second All-New England performer in cross country since 2006 (following Esther Kendall ’10 last year).
