LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates women’s track and field team opened the 2011 indoor season by hosting Colby and MIT in a tri-meet Saturday at Walter Slovenski Track. MIT won the meet in impressive fashion with 216.5 points, but Bates edged Colby for second place with 85.5 points to the Mules’ 76.
Senior Sara Ellen Godek (Gilford, N.H.) dominated both the shot put and the weight throw. Godek recorded a personal record by a foot in the shot put at 12.22 meters, and her 15.99-meter weight throw met provisional qualifying standards for the NCAA Championship.

- first-year Jenny Fucillo (Winthrop, Mass.), whose qualifying round time of 8.99 seconds in the 55 hurdles puts her seventh best all-time.
- junior Taylor Piers (Falmouth, Maine), whose 5.02-meter long jump placed second out of 16 competitors.
