Godek tops in Division III at BU meet in weight throw, shot put

BOSTON — Senior captain Sara Ellen Godek (Gilford, N.H.) led a strong effort by the Bates women’s track and field team on Friday in the all-divisions Valentine Invitational at Boston University, placing sixth in the weight throw and 10th in the shot put.
Godek had a top effort of 53-00.00 in the finals of the weight throw, good for sixth place out of an original 39 competitors, and the best mark among Division III competitors. Bates graduate Keelin Godsey ’06, competing unattached, took first place in the event at 63-09.75. Godek placed 10th out of 37 competitors in the shot put at 39-01.00, also tops among Division III throwers.
Fellow senior captain Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.) took 42nd place among 133 runners in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 26.36. Lindauer’s time qualifies her for the ECAC Division III Championships, and ranks her No. 6 all-time at Bates in the event. Sophomore Ansley Flanagan (Roxbury, Conn.) was 60th in 26.91, putting her at No. 8 all-time at Bates and qualifying her for next weekend’s New England Division III Championship. She was followed by junior Liz Carleton (Westborough, Mass.) in 95th (27.83) and sophomore Kristen Poulin (Freeport, Maine) in 113th (28.39).
Sophomore Bud Arens (Weymouth, Mass.) ran a fast time of 3:04.23 in the 1,000, good for 25th place among 58 runners. Arens now ranks No. 8 all-time at Bates in the 1,000, and she qualifies to run at ECACs in three weeks.
Bates ran a 4:03.52 in the 4×400 relay, on the legs of Flanagan, first-year Jenny Fucillo (Winthrop, Mass.), Arens and Lindauer. The time was 17th best out of 38 entries, sixth best among Division III squads, and was the fifth-best time in team history.
First-year Kallie Nixon (Medfield, Mass.) ran a 2:21.56 in the 800, 65th among 139 runners, to meet qualifications to compete at ECACs in three weeks. Sophomore Nora Hanagan (Singapore) was 93rd in 2:26.77, and first-year Alison Travers (Brentwood, N.H.) was 106th in 2:28.52, both qualifying for the New England Division III Championships.
First-year Abby Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) time of 1:23.11 in the 500 was 39th best among 57 runners. Senior Lindsay Soule (South Portland, Maine) was 47th in 1:24.37. Both athletes qualified for New England Division III’s with their performances.
Fucillo was 52nd out of 69 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.05 seconds.
Also qualifying for ECACs were Bates’ 3,000-meter duo of first-year Meg Ogilvie (Hopedale, Mass.), who placed 83rd out of 107 in 10:47.10, and senior Kerri Leonhardt (Milford, N.J.) in 87th at 10:49.89.
The Bobcats compete at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
