BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bates College men’s swimming and diving team will look to make some noise in nearby Brunswick, Maine, at the 2011 NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Bowdoin.
The three-day championship meet features preliminary heats each morning followed by championship races in the early evening.
The young Bates squad that finished eighth at last year’s NESCACs — the team’s best conference finish since 2003 — is largely intact, including standouts such as senior Pat Carroll (North Andover, Mass.) and juniors Dan Aupi (Branford, Conn.), Ned Scott (Maplewood, N.J.), Tom Boniface (Youngstown, Ohio) and Nathaniel Depew (Hudson, Ohio), among others. The Bobcats also have the help of some talented first-year swimmers, led by Won Ho Chang (Seoul, Korea), who broke the team 200-yard butterfly record last month.
Competition will get underway each day with preliminary heats at 10:00 a.m. Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 5:50 p.m. Saturday, and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $6 per session or $30 for an all-session pass for adults and $2 per session for children and students or $10 for an all-session pass. Doors will open two hours prior to the heats and finals. A complete championship schedule along with real-time results will be available at www.nescac.com.
