HADLEY, Mass. — Bates freshman Won Ho Chang (Seoul, Korea) received two All-NESCAC awards on Tuesday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Men’s Swimming and Diving 2011 All-Conference Team.
Chang received all-conference recognition — which goes to the top three finishers in each event at the conference championship meet — in both the 50- and 200-yard butterfly. Chang placed second in the 50 fly on Friday, the Bates men’s team’s first top-three performance at NESCACs since diver Erik Baker ’04 in 2004. Chang then took first place on Sunday in the 200 fly in 1:52.13, becoming the team’s first event winner in the 11-year history of the NESCAC championship meet.
Chang not only swam a national B cut time in the 200 fly, but he set or helped set six team records on the weekend: the 50, 100 and 200 fly, the 200 freestyle, and as a member of Bates’ 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay teams.
