Bates freshman goalkeeper Charlie Kazarian(Providence, R.I.) made his first two collegiate starts last week and played impressively, stopping 31 shots and recording a save percentage of .646. He also had eight ground balls over two games against Bowdoin and Trinity.In Bates’ 11-9 loss to Bowdoin on April 19, Kazarian appeared in the starting lineup for the first time and recorded 16 saves and two ground balls. He tended goal in Saturday’s 6-5 double-overtime loss to Trinity, making 15 saves and collecting six ground balls as Bates withstood a 32-12 disadvantage in shots after halftime against the 15th-ranked Bantams. |

Bates sophomore catcher and utility playerAnnaMarie Martinobatted .571 (12-for-21) with a .619 slugging mark in a 3-3 week for the Bates softball team last week, helping to instigate an offensive resurgence for the Bobcats.Martino (Plymouth, Minn.) scored a run and drove in five on the week, and entered this week leading Bates with a .467 average and ranking second on the team in slugging (.511), on-base percentage (.467) and stolen bases (5-for-6). Along with junior captainLeah Maciejewski (Tewksbury, Mass.), who hit .381 with a home run and seven RBIs on the week, Martino helped Bates to a .284 team batting average while the Bobcats held opponents to a .200 average. In the Bobcats’ six games prior to last week, the team batted .258 while opponents hit .377. |
