Women's XC Preview: Cullen, Fannon set to lead the way for Bates
LEWISTON, Maine — It was clear by their strong 1-2 finish at last Saturday’s annual Bates Cross Country Alumni Meet, that juniors Lindsay Cullen (Newburyport, Mass.) and Alicia Fannon (Haverhill, Mass.) have raised their game. The two appeared to be well-prepared to lead what Bobcats head coach Jay Hartshorn hopes will be a return to being one of the top 10 Division III teams in New England.
The team hosts its first meet of the season on Saturday at its Pineland Farms home course in New Gloucester, continuing the recent tradition of a class relays meet against Colby.
In addition to Cullen and Fannon, rookie Elena Jay (West Hartford, Conn.) also figures to give the team a boost, judging by her third-place finish among her new teammates. Proven veteran runners include juniors Lisa Reedich (Harvard, Mass.), Liz Schulze (San Diego, Calif.) and Amanda Solch (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), and senior captains Jenny Monsulick (Readfield, Maine) and Rebecca Dugan (Port Murray, N.J.).
Not to be overlooked, the strong sophomore class includes such promising runners as Kallie Nixon (Medfield, Mass.), Meg Ogilvie (Hopedale, Mass.), Merrill Brady (Concord, Mass.), Mira Carey-Hatch (Laconia, N.H.), and Devin Tatro (Haverhill, Mass.).
Other first-year talent joining the team includes Teika Carlson (Southbury, Conn.), Sarah Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.), Erica Gagnon (Weymouth, Mass.), Olivia Krishnaswami (Seattle, Wash.) and Emily Roseman (Rochester, Mass.).
