Volleyball finishes play at Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. — The Bates volleyball team finished play at the Brandeis Invitational on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Emmanuel College, followed by a 3-2 nailbiter of a setback against Eastern Connecticut State.
Emmanuel took Bates’ first match of the day by set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 18-25, 25-11, before the Bobcats accepted a tough 25-20, 23-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10 decision against ECSU.
Junior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a very busy afternoon playing back-row defense, collecting 35 digs against Emmanuel and 42 more against Eastern Connecticut.
Junior Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) had 11 kills and a pair of blocks against Emmanuel, followed by a 13-kill, two-block, two-ace match against Eastern. Senior Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) totaled eight kills against Emmanuel and a team-high 16 against Eastern. Senior captain Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) had 15 kills on the day and only two passing errors out of 62 attempts.
Bates travels to Castine to take on Maine Maritime Academy in a non-conference match on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
