Men's golf ties for second place at Colby Invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine — The Bates men’s golf team tied for second place among five squads on Sunday at the Colby Invitational. The event was scored in scramble format, with two three-person teams combining for two scores.
Colby White (Colby Blue finished fifth) won the event with a 63 from Team 1 and a 58 from Team 2 for a combined 121.
Bates came next at 131, tied with UMaine-Presque Isle for second place.
The Bates 2 team, comprising junior Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.), sophomore Sean Thomas (Mississauga, Ontario) and first-year Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) combined to shoot a 64. The Bates 1 team — sophomore Garrett Johnson (Lexington, Mass.), sophomore Zach Abbott (Rangeley, Maine) and junior Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.) — shot a 67.
Bates next competes at the NESCAC Men’s Golf Qualifier, to be played Oct. 1-2 at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, Conn.
