Johnson leads men's golf at Colby tournament
WATERVILLE, Maine — Sophomore Garrett Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) led Bates with a 29 and junior Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) had a 28 in a 154-112 loss (using Stableford scoring) to Colby at the Sid Farr Invitational on Sunday at the Waterville Country Club.
The tourney was Stableford scoring (most points wins), with an eagle worth eight points, a birdie at four points, a par worth two points, a bogey counting as one point, and double bogey or more as zero points.
Thomas Lampert had a 35 for the Mules and Harry Smith finished with a 33. Peter Gabranski added a 30 and Tripp Huber and Taggie Martin both had a 28.
First-year Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) scored 21 points, third on the Bobcats, followed by junior Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.) at 18 and first-year Zachary Abbott (Mississauga, Ontario) at 16.
Bates concludes the season on Oct. 17-18 at the 77th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, a two-day tournament held at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
