Pyne powers volleyball to 3-1 win at Husson

BANGOR, Maine — Junior Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) had a career-high 15 kills with three blocks and two aces, and seniors Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) added 11 and 10 kills apiece, to lead the Bates volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-11, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19) non-conference victory at Husson University on Thursday night.
Bates (3-14) had a dominating first set, with 14 kills against just two attack errors, and the Bobcats never lost their lead in downing the host Eagles (14-8).
First-year setter Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) had 38 assists and two of Bates’ 11 service aces in the match. Schow contributed two blocks and junior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) and first-year Emma Getsinger (Darien, Conn.) led Bates in digs with 18 and 14, respectively.
Hannah Olstad led Husson with 11 kills, and Rachel Voicechovski came up with 25 digs.
Bates plays a pair of NESCAC matches on Saturday at Colby, taking on Middlebury at 11 a.m. and Amherst at 1:30 p.m.
