Murphy scores sixth goal, but penalty shot sinks men's soccer

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Andrew Lee scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to lift Connecticut College to a 2-1 NESCAC victory against the Bates men’s soccer team on Saturday.
Bates (3-7, 0-7 NESCAC) will try again for its first conference win on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., as the Bobcats host Tufts University. The game can be followed online via live video webcast and by live stats.
The Camels improve to 7-3-1 with a 4-3-1 record in the NESCAC.
Billy Hawkey netted his team-leading fourth goal in the first half for the Camels, assisted by Nick Maghenzani.
Bates junior John Murphy (Yarmouth, Maine) accounted for the visitors’ score with a blast from 35 yards out in the 33rd minute of action. Murphy leads the Bobcats with a career-high six goals on the season.
Casey Marini stopped six shots to earn the victory in goal for the Camels. Senior Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.) made three saves for Bates.
