NEW LONDON, Conn. — Senior forward Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) scored in the 64th minute of action and the goal stood up as Bates women’s soccer team posted a 1-0 NESCAC victory at Connecticut College Saturday.
The Bobcats evened their overall record to 4-4-2 and raised their NESCAC mark to 1-4-2 with their first conference win of the season. The Camels slipped to 4-6-1 with a 1-5-1 record in the league.
Junior back Camille Smith (Henniker, N.H.) assisted on Tobin’s game-winner, her second assist in as many games. Tobin raised her team-high scoring total to six goals on the season, to go with two assists. The score was her second game-winning goal this season.
Senior goalie Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) posted the shutout with four saves for the Bobcats. Burns has two solo shutouts this season and has combined with sophomore teammate Anabel Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) on two other Bates shutouts. The Camels’ Celia Alvarez fired a shot from the 18-yard line in the 80th minute, but Burns was able to make a diving stop to protect the lead for the visitors.
Natalie Signor made seven stops in the loss for the Camels.
