Women’s tennis wins 8 singles, 3 doubles matches at Bowdoin Invite

BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bates women’s tennis team wrapped up its abbreviated fall season over the weekend at the Bowdoin Invitational, matched up against opponents from the rival Polar Bears as well as Wellesley College and the University of Rochester. The Bobcats returned home with eight victories in the tournament’s singles flights and three more wins in doubles.
Senior Erika Blauth (Camden, Maine), first-year Keenan Brent (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Kristen Doerer (Madison, Conn.) and won two matches apiece in singles play, while first-year Audrey Grauer (Encinitas, Calif.) and first-year Alexandra Hakusui (Boxford, Mass.) were victorious in one singles match apiece.
Blauth was a 2-6, 6-1 (12-10) victor over Cara Genbauffe of Rochester, as well as a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Tatyana Lemelman of Rochester.
Brent defeated Wellesley’s Elena Bowen 6-2, 6-4 and also defeated a Rochester player by retirement. Doerer defeated Cindy Zu of Rochester 6-1, 6-2, and also outlasted Morgan Johstonbaugh of Wellesley 3-6, 6-1 (10-5). Grauer defeated Hayley Brower of Rochester, 6-1, 6-0, and Hakusui had no trouble with Rochester’s Tatyana Lemelman, 6-1, 6-0.
Bates also won three doubles matches, each win by a different duo. Junior Jacqui Holmes (Harvard, Mass.) and sophomore Lucy Brennan (Wellesley, Mass.) defeated Rochester’s Brower and Rachel Suresky 8-5. First-year Elena Mandzhukova (Lisbon, Portugal) and senior Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) won 8-6 over Danielle Shreck and Alexandra Goodman of Rochester, and Grauer and Hakusui took an 8-3 decision over Zu and Taylor Gilbert of Rochester.
