Ryan Curit '14

Bates sophomore slotback Ryan Curit (South Portland, Maine) collected 76 rushing yards on 11 carries (6.91 yards per carry) and caught a game-high seven passes for 71 yards in the Bobcats’ 28-15 setback in their season finale at Hamilton on Saturday.

Curit, who saw only limited action in his freshman season, finished the the 2011 season with 773 yards from scrimmage (423 rushing, 350 receiving), the fourth-most in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. He ranked fifth in the NESCAC in receptions per game (5.50), ninth in all-purpose yardage (96.6 per game), 11th in rushing yards per game (52.88) and 13th in receiving yards per game (43.75).

Curit’s emergence as a dual offensive threat was one big reason Bates rose to third in the conference in rushing offense this season, with 158.25 yards per game, fifth in passing offense (187.63) and fourth in total offense (345.88).

Alicia Fannon '13

The Bates women’s cross country team placed four runners among the top 57 out of 357 runners overall, led by an All-New England performance by junior Alicia Fannon, in finishing 11th out of 51 teams on Saturday at the 2011 NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championship.

Bates scored 302 points, the Bobcats’ best tally since 2008, for their third straight 11th-place finish at New Englands, beating 12th-place Wesleyan by 26 points and trailing 10th-place Brandeis by 49.

With the top 35 runners qualifying as All-New England, Fannon (Haverhill, Mass.) covered the 6-kilometer course at Bowdoin in 22:17.80, good for 33rd place. Junior Lindsay Cullen (Newburyport, Mass.) finished in 45th at 22:43.00, followed by first-year Elena Jay (West Hartford, Conn.) in 52nd at 22:50.40. Senior captain Jenny Monsulick (Readfield, Maine) came in 57th in 23:01.94, faster than all but seven other teams’ fourth runner.

Fannon extended the team’s streak of All-New England runners to three years, following Esther Kendall ’10 in 2009 and Kerri Leonhardt ’11 in 2010.

An excellent student as well, Fannon will also receive USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Cross Country honors, based on her cumulative grade point average and her qualification for nationals.
