Tom Boniface ’12

Bates senior Tom Boniface was named Division III Men’s National Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 16 by CollegeSwimming.com, with an epic performance at Division I Maine that earned him Bobcat of the Week honors as well.

The website singled out Boniface (Youngstown, Ohio) for his singular performances at last weekend’s meet at Division I University of Maine, where he won all three of his individual races in dramatic, come-from-behind fashion. His time of 1:47.6 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle was the fastest Boniface has ever recorded in season.  Further, in all three races the Bobcat captain was trailing going into the last leg of the race and came out victorious with very impressive times in those events (49.5 seconds in the 100 freestyle and 2:02 in the 200 individual medley).

It was the second time a Bates swimmer has claimed the honor in the past two years, after Charlotte Green ’10 two seasons ago.
