No. 24 Colby holds off women’s hoops, 67-57
LEWISTON, Maine — Diana Manduca led five Colby players in double figures with 15 points as the No. 24 nationally ranked Mules defeated the Bates women’s basketball team 67-57 in the rivals’ NESCAC matchup on Friday night.
Jil Vaughan contributed 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Aarika Ritchie added 11 points and seven assists, and Rachael Mack and Jacky McLaughlin chipped in 10 points apiece.
Meredith Kelly scored 14 points and Molly Brown added 12 and a team-high five rebounds for the Bobcats (6-8, 1-2 NESCAC). Annie Burns scored eight points and added four assists and a pair of steals.
The Mules (10-1, 2-0 NESCAC) ran out to a lead as great as 30-8, capped by a 14-0 run between the the 12:19 and 6:30 marks of the period, before heading for the locker room with a 34-18 halftime lead. Vaughan dominated the period with nine points and six rebounds, while Ritchie contributed six points and three assists.
The Bobcats shot only 8-24 (33.3%) in the first half, but rebounded in the second half, shooting 17-30 (56.7%), though the Mules raised their shooting, too, from 48.0% to 52.2%
Bates plays host to Bowdoin tomorrow at 2pm, while Colby travels to Tufts.
