Trinity edges softball in series’ rubber game, 2-1
HARTFORD, Conn. — Christina Galese hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead Trinity College to a 2-1 win over the Bates College softball team in NESCAC East action Saturday afternoon on Campus Field. Trinity moved to 8-6 on the year and 2-1 in the NESCAC, while Bates falls to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The homer by Galese was her second key hit of the afternoon, after the outfielder had doubled and scored a run in the second inning on an RBI single by Kristina Yu. Katherine Poulos picked up her second complete game win in two days, allowing six hits in seven innings for the Bantams.
Six different Bobcats tallied one hit apiece, for a 6-5 advantage in hits for Bates. Senior co-captain Lauren Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.) knocked in the lone run for the Bobcats, scoring senior Karen Ullmann (Ramsey, N.J.), who also had two stolen bases on the afternoon.
Kerry McCarthy collected two hits and a walk in the game for Trinity.
Bates senior pitcher Kristen Finn (Winthrop, Mass.) submitted her second strong pitching performance in as many days, allowing one earned run in six innings, after picking up a win in the Bobcats’ 4-2 win in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader.
