Men’s varsity eight wins in Worcester in spring opener
WORCESTER, Mass. — The Bates men’s rowing team opened the spring season with a strong performance at Lake Quinsigamond, including wins against three other boats in the varsity eight and varsity four races.
The Bobcat varsity eight defeated runner-up WPI by 7.6 seconds over 2,000 meters, with a time of 6:22.2. The University of Rhode Island (6:30.7) and the University of Rochester (6:47.4) were third and fourth, respectively.
Bates’ varsity four also took first out of four, defeating WPI 7:04.7 to 7:07.0, with two boats from Rochester third and fourth.
Bates took fourth in the 2V8 race and second out of three in the novice eight race.
The Bates men compete against MIT, Trinity and Boston College next Saturday in Boston.
