Bobcat of the Week of April 2, 2012: David Pless ’13
Bates junior David Pless won all three of his events on Saturday at the University of Maine to lead the men’s track and field team to a most impressive outdoor season debut — the Bobcats scored 138 points in the tri-meet — 30 of them recorded by Pless himself — to outscore their two Division I opponents, Maine (136) and New Hampshire (121).
Three weeks after winning his second NCAA indoor shot put championship, Pless (Atlanta, Ga.) won the hammer throw in 182-10 (56 inches beyond runner-up Ethan Moore of Maine), the discus throw in 168-11 (65 inches beyond runner-up Justin Gagne of Maine), and the shot put in 55-0 (8 inches beyond runner-up Gagne).
The four-time All-American earned the first NESCAC Field Performer of the Week award for his efforts, a year after doing the same by winning the shot put and discus in a dual meet against Maine.
