Pless named NESCAC Field Performer of the Week
HADLEY, Mass. — A year after winning the award for his performance at the same site at an outdoor season-opening meet, Bates junior David Pless won Field Performer of the Week honors in NESCAC Men’s Track and Field on Monday, announced by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Pless (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Bobcats to a tri-meet win over Division I Maine and New Hampshire on Saturday in Orono, Maine, winning all three of his events. Three weeks after winning his second NCAA indoor shot put championship, Pless won the hammer throw in 182-10 (56 inches beyond runner-up Ethan Moore of Maine), the discus throw in 168-11 (65 inches beyond runner-up Justin Gagne of Maine), and the shot put in 55-0 (8 inches beyond runner-up Gagne).
Pless scored 30 of Bates’ 138 points on Saturday, as the Bobcats upset the host Black Bears (136) and also outscored the visiting Wildcats (121).
The four-time All-American was one of three Bates men to win NESCAC FPOW honors in 2011, along with Chris Murtagh ’11 and Ethan Waldman ’11. He claimed his previous one on April 4, 2011 after winning the shot put and discus in a dual meet with Maine in Orono.
