Men’s varsity eight defeats Wesleyan, UNH

MALDEN, Mass. — The Bates men’s rowing team picked up wins in two head-to-head varsity eight races Saturday on the Malden River, in a regatta hosted by Tufts University.
Bates’ varsity eight defeated its rivals from Wesleyan University by nearly 10 seconds, 5:58.6 to 6:08.4. The Bobcats’ 1V8 then edged the University of New Hampshire by one second in a thriller, 6:03.9 to 6:04.9.
Bates’ novice eight accepted a loss to Tufts, but Bates’ second varsity four defeated Wesleyan by a margin of more than one minute, 6:49.5 to 7:53.4.
Bates will host the Presidents Cup, taking on Colby and Bowdoin on Sunday, April 22 at the Bates Boathouse in Greene.
