Men’s rowing goes 5-0 in home regatta against Middlebury

GREENE, Maine — The Bates men’s rowing team handled visiting Middlebury College well in a home regatta Sunday morning on the Androscoggin River, defeating the visiting Panthers in all five of the men’s races staged on the day.

Bates’ varsity eight outrowed Middlebury 5:53.8 to 6:03.8 over 2,000 meters with a slight tailwind, while the M2V8 won by a 13.3-second margin, 6:12.3 to 6:25.6.

As conditions changed into a stiffer crosswind, Bates’ varsity four dominated the Panthers 6:44.1 to 7:29.8, and the Bobcats registered a 6:44.0 to 7:07.0 win in novice eights.

The regatta served as preparation for the New England Rowing Championships, scheduled for Saturday, May 5 in Worcester, Mass.
