LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College junior Andrew Wortham (Newton, Mass.) has been named to the 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Division III Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Track/Cross Country Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. Wortham was selected to the Division III First Team for District 1, which comprises Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Wortham receives the honor four days after his 10th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. An English major, Wortham has a 3.65 cumulative grade point average through three full years at Bates.
Wortham had an exceptional cross country season as well, as perhaps the most consistently strong performer for the Bobcats, who tied for second at NESCACs, finished fourth at NCAA New England Regionals and seventh at NCAAs. Wortham was Bates’ second runner to cross the finish line at all three of those championship meets, picking up both All-NESCAC and All-New England honors along the way.
First-team Academic All-District honorees, including Wortham, advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
