Devin Fay named assistant coach of women’s rowing
LEWISTON, Maine — Bates rowing head coach Peter Steenstra is pleased to announce that Devin Fay has been named the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Bates women’s rowing team for the 2012-13 academic year.
Fay comes to Bates following a one-year stint as an assistant coach for the lightweight men’s crew at Cornell University. The majority of his time was spent with Cornell’s third varsity eight, which finished first at the 2012 Eastern Sprints Championship Regatta.
Fay received a Masters of Science in Exercise and Sports Studies from Smith College in 2011. While at Smith, he was the Pioneers’ assistant rowing coach and worked primarily with the second, third, and fourth varsity eights, while also leading their recruiting. Prior to Smith College, Fay had been the Head Rowing Coach for Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was an assistant at the Three Rivers Rowing Association.
“We are very fortunate to have Devin joining us here at Bates. He is a very well-educated oarsman who has shown great determination and patience as a young professional coach,” said Steenstra. “[Men's Assistant Coach Jesse Foglia] and I are very much looking forward to working with him.”
Fay has attended the Joy of Sculling Coaches Conference four times and has also received his USRowing Level III certification.
Fay will begin at Bates in mid-August, following the World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where he is serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s Lightweight Eight.
