Volleyball splits two matches at St. Joe’s tournament
STANDISH, Maine — The Bates volleyball team split two matches on opening day of the 2012 season on Friday at the St. Joseph’s College Invitational. The host Monks rallied for a 3-1 win over the Bobcats, before Bates defeated Lyndon State in the nightcap (details to come).
Bates (1-1) will face Husson tomorrow at 10am, followed by either the championship or consolation match of the four-team round robin at noon.
The Bobcats put the Monks (4-0) on their heels with a 25-14 opening-set victory, but St. Joe’s rebounded with three consecutive wins in a competitive and well-played contest. The Monks snapped a nine-match losing streak against the Bobcats dating to 1997.
