Men’s golf defeats Colby in match play
WATERVILLE, Maine — The Bates College and Colby College men’s golf teams met in match play for the Sid Farr Invitational on Sunday, and the Bobcats earned a 5-2 win at Waterville Country Club.
Bates had five individual winners against his Colby counterpart: Bates senior captain Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) took a 3-and-2 (up 3 shots with 2 holes to play) victory over Tripp Huber; junior Garrett Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) of the Bobcats won 5-and-4 over Pete Gabranski, senior Kevin Shaughnessy (Ridgefield, Conn.) was a 6-and-5 winner against Steve Carroll, sophomore Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) took a 3-and-2 victory against Anthony Raymond, and junior Aidan Schmidtberger (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) was a 6-and-5 winner against Jack Hartigan.
Colby co-captain Taggie Martin took a 5-and-4 victory over Bates senior Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.), while the Mules also received a 3-and-2 victory from Craig Marshall over junior Zachary Abbott (Rangeley, Maine).
Bates finishes up the season on Oct. 27 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, taking place Oct. 27-29 at The Captain’s Course in Brewster, Mass.
