Women’s golf finishes 13th at Williams Fall Invitational
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Bates first-year Elizabeth LaVerghetta (Norton, Mass.) shot a two-day combined score of 190 to lead the Bates women’s golf team at the two-day Williams Fall Classic, which concluded Sunday at Taconic Golf Club.
The Bobcats finished 10th among the 10 complete teams there, with a two-day, four-player combined score of 832. The tournament also constitutes the NESCAC championship, and Bates finished fifth in the conference behind Williams, Middlebury, Amherst and Bowdoin.
LaVerghetta shot a 95 on both Saturday and Sunday to place 50th best 69 players overall at the highly competitive tournament. First-year Jess Plotnikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shot a 233 to tie for 61st place, followed by junior Jordan Banez (Fredericksburg, Va.) in 64th at 234. Sophomore captain Ali Desjardins (Auburn, Maine) and junior Jennalee Kulig (East Granby, Conn.) tied for 66th place at 255 apiece.
Williams won the tournament with a score of 641, led by medalist Georgiana Salant’s 144.
The tournament finished the season for the young Bobcats, comprised entirely of newcomers save for Desjardin.
