Women’s crew 6th out of 26 at Head of the Charles
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Bates women’s rowing team’s varsity eight placed sixth among 26 boats on Sunday in the Women’s Collegiate Eights division of the 48th Head of the Charles Regatta.
Bates’ first varsity eight, ranked No. 2 in Division III, finished the serpentine course in 18:09.71, 27.06 seconds off the pace set by overall winner Trinity (17:42.65) and only 0.4 seconds behind fifth-place Wellesley. Bates also William Smith (18:00.41), Williams (18:01.38), Grand Valley State (18:04.98) and Wellesley (18:09.31), but finished ahead of the likes of WPI (18:13.02) and Wesleyan (18:25.50).
The Bates men’s rowing team’s varsity eight placed 18th among 37 various boats on Sunday, with a time of 16:35.39, ahead of such competition as 19th-place UC Santa Barbara and 20th-place St. Joseph’s University. Marist finished 17th in 16:28.92, and Virginia was the overall winner in 15:44.20.
In Saturday’s action on the Charles, Bates’ men’s varsity four placed an impressive 12th out of 46 boats, in a time of 17:36.94, outpacing such competition as Notre Dame, Army, Pittsburgh and Fordham.
