Buetow, Milliken both top 10 for men’s Nordic at UVM
STOWE, Vt. — Bates junior Jordan Buetow finished third out of 72 competitors on Saturday in the men’s 10K freestyle race at the UVM Carnival, earning the right to stand on his second podium in the past three weeks.
Buetow (Fairbanks, Alaska) finished the course in 25:12.1, trailing only Scott Patterson of Vermont and Sam Tarling of Dartmouth. At the St. Lawrence Carnival two weeks ago, he was second in the men’s 3K prologue freestyle race.
Senior captain Lucas Milliken (North Yarmouth, Maine) placed a career-best 10th, in 26:02.8, as the Bates men’s team finished third out of 13 squads in the event with 94 carnival points. First-year Corky Harrer (Minneapolis, Minn.) came in 29th to round out Bates’ scoring, in 26:46.1.
Sophomore Hallie Grossman (South Woodstock, Vt.) finished 20th in the women’s 5K freestyle to lead the Bates women to sixth place as a unit. Grossman timed in at 15:00.2, followed by senior Gretchen Sellegren (Bozeman, Mont.) in 28th (15:13.4) and first-year Margaret Pope (McCall, Idaho) in 33rd at 15:23.0.
The UVM Carnival, with its alpine portion completed weeks ago, concludes on Sunday with classical technique races.
