Pless profiled by Portland Press Herald columnist
LEWISTON, Maine — Off to another impressive start in this, his final indoor season at Bates, six-time All-American and two-time NCAA champion David Pless ’13 was the subject of Steve Solloway’s column in Wednesday’s Portland Press Herald, ‘Always giving it his best shot.’
Solloway caught up with Pless for an interview during Tuesday’s practice in Merrill Gymnasium, and the result is a closer look at the background and personality of the latest and greatest thrower in Bates track and field’s proud history. Two weeks ago at Boston University, Pless broke his own Bates shot put record, and at last weekend’s Maine State Championships, he set meet records in both the shot put and the weight throw.
This isn’t the first time Pless has received significant media attention. Last year he was one of Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd,” and was profiled in his hometown Atlanta Journal-Constitution and in the Lewiston Sun Journal.
