HADLEY, Mass. — Bates junior goaltender Charlie Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) was named NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Monday, after he played a large role in Bates’ 2-0 week.

Kazarian made 12 saves and allowed only five goals in Bates’ 7-5 win over No. 17 nationally ranked Wesleyan on Saturday, the Bobcats’ third straight win against the Cardinals. He also earned the goalie win in Bates’ 14-9 defeat of the University of New England, making eight saves against four goals allowed. On the week he recorded a save percentage of .690 and a goals-against average of only 5.26.

Kazarian breaks Bates’ seven-year drought in claiming NESCAC Player of the Year honors — the Bobcats’ last such honoree was Matt Erisman ’07 on April 10, 2006. Four weeks prior to that — and almost exactly seven years ago today — former Bates goalie Paul Kazarian ’06, Charlie’s older brother, earned the honor.

Bates (3-2) has won three games in a row for the first time since 2010, and the Bobcats entered the NEILA Division III New England Top 10 rankings this week at No. 5.
