She was an inspiring leader on the Bates swim team, where she served as captain, participated three times in the NCAA Championship meets, and achieved All-New England and All-America honors, and several college records, including the college scoring record. Katie received the Senior Athletic Citation and graduated in 1993.
After her impressive career at Bates, Katie worked in the Bates College Office of Admission as an assistant dean, and then as an associate dean from 1996 to 2005, including a stint as interim Dean of Admission. Katie is also a member of the College Key, where she has been on the steering committee of the Cumberland County Bates Club, was on the Social Committee for her fifth class reunion, and has volunteered for Alumni-in-Admission.
Katie is married to John Reese Madden Jr. ’93, manager of North American marketing for Hypertherm (Hanover, N.H.), which designs and manufactures metal-cutting systems for use in industries such as shipbuilding, oil and gas, heavy equipment, structural steel, and manufacturing. The Maddens have two daughters, Mia, born in 2005, and Campbell, born in 2007.
Currently Katie and her family live in Norwich, Vt., and are active with Camp Dudley and Camp Dudley at Kiniya, and the boys’ and girls’ camps in New York State and Vermont affiliated with the YMCA.
