The Bates men’s track and field team won the 2013 New England Division III Outdoor Championships for the first time on Saturday, dramatically edging MIT by one point after winning the 4×800 relay race in record time.

Bates College won the 114th edition of the Maine State Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the fourth straight year, and for the 11th time in the past 12 years, outscoring runner-up Bowdoin by 84 points on Saturday at Russell Street Track.

Men’s track competes at Princeton, Fitchburg State

David Pless defeated 13 other competitors, including 10 Division I athletes, in the shot put to highlight the Bates men’s track and field team’s first excursion to Princeton University. Meanwhile the bulk of the team competedat Fitchburg State, where Bates placed second among 11 collegiate teams.
