Bates asks all alumni, parents, and friends to make a yearly Bates Fund gift the cornerstone of their personal giving to the College.

While endowed funds are invested to ensure the College's future strength, the Bates Fund acts as a "living endowment" allowing 100% of your gift to support today's needs. In fact, $3.5 million in Bates Fund support provides the same benefit as $70M in new endowment. Gifts to the Bates Fund provide annual spendable resources that help to underwrite the cost of the College's immediate expenses.

 Through gifts to The Bates Fund, all Bates supporters provide essential help with funds that can be spent immediately on the College's most important priorities-financial aid, academic quality and the learning experience, student life, and campus revitalization.

Should Bates Fund gifts grow more robustly, Bates could begin to reduce dependence on student fees, lower endowment spending (allowing endowment principal to grow more rapidly), and fund current programs more adequately and consistently.

Bates needs and welcomes gifts of every amount from all alumni, parents, and friends. Small gifts, when added to the efforts of others, multiply into major support for the important work of Bates students and faculty.
