Plant of the Week – September 1-7, 2014

Species: Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)

Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)

Range: Most of Eastern North America

Cool Facts: This is Dr. Eller’s favorite tree. It is wind pollinated and prefers moist sites with cool, humid climates. It creates beautiful dense, dark groves, but its prevalence is rapidly decreasing due to an invasion of the hemlock wooly adelgid (Adelges tsugae).
