Bates Associated Buddhist Chaplain Heiku Jaime McLeod is offering ongoing Zen Meditation sessions on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in Gomes Chapel, open to all Bates faculty, staff and students. These meditations will continue during Bates academic recesses. If you are new to Zen meditation, please plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to the sitting. Heiku Jaime McLeod is a priest and teacher at Treetop Zen Center in Oakland, Maine, and the guiding teacher of Great Falls Zen, a Treetop-affiliated Dharma outreach in the Lewiston-Auburn area. She received Dharma Transmission from Peter Seishin Wohl in 2016. Heiku is a proponent of socially engaged Buddhism and believes there is no practice without compassionate activity in the world, growing out of a direct experience of connection with the Earth and all beings. Her mode of practice is fervently non-monastic, and she strives to help students find opportunities for renunciation in the realm of work, love, and home. She makes her living as a journalist, editor, and public relations specialist. She lives in Lewiston with her wife, Melissa, their son, Silas, and a house full of pets. In her free time, she enjoys camping, nature walks, swimming, science fiction, mythology, and crafting.
