What does Allen mean when she says that her analysis of the Declaration is “antilibertarian”? What do libertarians believe about the role of government and human freedom? What role does Allen argue that government has in the creation of human freedom? Do you find her arguments persuasive? Why or why not?

That the achievement of equality is the sole foundation on which we can build lasting and meaningful freedom is a fundamentally antilibertarian argument. Since libertarianism currently dominates our political imaginations, this first argument runs against the grain of our contemporary culture.
