Official policy for posting information on the Bates College website

  1. All materials produced by Bates College personnel on official pages of the Bates College website are protected by copyright.
  2. The Bates College name, seal, wordmark, and other official images are property of the college, and may not be used without permission of the Bates Communications and Marketing Office.
  3. In order to reinforce a strong and unified visual identity for the college, site managers for official college pages should follow the Bates College Style Guide.
  4. Copyrighted material may not be used on a Bates College web page without permission of the copyright owner. See the Bates College Copyright Policy, which includes procedures for notifying the college concerning claims of copyright infringement related to the college’s website.
  5. Site managers uploading content and graphics to a Bates web page are responsible for ensuring that copyrights are respected.
  6. Bates College does not permit web posting of content that is illegal, that violates license rights or other contractual agreements, or that violates the privacy rights of any individual. For information regarding restrictions on programs, software, and full-text, statistical, bibliographic, and other databases licensed to Bates College, please contact the Vice President for Information and Library Services and Librarian.
  7. Bates College reserves the right to reject or remove from any Bates College web server materials that are outdated, erroneous or misleading, illegal, unethical, or detrimental to the mission and operations of the college.
  8. Bates College students, faculty, and staff members are expected to comply with the Bates College Acceptable Use Policy.
  9. The Bates College website contains links that allow visitors to access other websites that are not controlled by the college. Such links are provided as a convenience, and do not imply endorsement by the college. Bates College assumes no responsibility or liability for any material on these links, and expressly disclaims any responsibility for the contents of any linked site.
  10. Bates College reserves the right to refuse to offer a link on an official college web page, or to remove a link without notice.
  11. Visitors to the Bates College website may not post or transmit information or materials that violate the rights of any third party; that contain known destructive or harmful components; that contain threatening, abusive, or obscene images or language; or that are otherwise illegal.
