Faculty Workshops: September 2009
Information & Library Services has planned a series of faculty workshops for the first week of September. The workshops range from the practical to the informational: full details appear below.

10:00 – 11:30 AM: Introduction to Lyceum (Coram 110)
Lyceum (http://lyceum.bates.edu) is the College’s course management system, which allows instructors to deliver digital course materials over the web. The session will provide an introduction to and overview of Lyceum and is intended for any one who plans to use the system for the first time during the fall semester.
1:00 – 2:00 PM: New Looks, New Links (Ladd BI)
This session will explore all the changes that accompanied the library’s new website, including CBBcat, new Subject Guides, database of Online Resources, and new navigation.
2:00 – 3:00 PM: Lyceum Open Lab (Coram 110)
A drop-by session intended for any one using Lyceum in the fall semester. During the session, you will be able to consult individually with ATS staff who will help with any aspect of Lyceum. (This session is repeated on Wednesday and Thursday).
10:00 – 11:00 AM: Lyceum Gradebook (Coram 110)
Lyceum includes a new gradebook tool that allows instructors to record and calculate grades online. This workshop will guide participants through the steps involved in setting up and configuring a course gradebook in Lyceum. (This session is repeated on Thursday).
11:00 AM – noon: Lyceum Open Lab (Coram 110)
1:00 – 2:00 PM: RefWorks vs Endnote (Ladd BI)
An introduction to the citation manager software available to faculty.
2:00 – 3:00 PM: Non-English Computing (Hathorn 208)
Learn about the non-English computing resources available at Bates, including streaming international TV, Rosetta Stone, and karaoke. Also learn how to configure your Bates computer to handle alternate character-sets, use Lyceum for language instruction, and stream the audiovisual components of your textbooks online.
10:00 – 11:00 AM: Lyceum Open Lab (Coram 110)
11:00 AM – noon: Digital Media Studios (Pettigrew 121)
The Digital Media Studios (DMC) provides audio and video editing equipment, support and instruction to the Bates Community. This session will serve as an introduction to the resources and staff available at the DMC. It will include short demonstrations of digital audio and video projects that Bates faculty and students have created in collaboration with the staff of the DMC.
