Benjamin Mays Center If you get tired of chicken and pasta, the "Silo" is the way to go. It is a dining area designed as a quick and easy self-serve deli bar lunch. Equipped with sandwich meats, spreads, cheeses, vegetables and soups, it is a laid back setting with a comfortable atmosphere. Unfortunately, lunches only.

Dining System
Bates Dining recognizes that student's schedules and dining preferences vary from day to day, therefore, we have structured a flexible schedule to accommodate all our students. With meals served throughout the day and bag lunches available for those not being able to dine in Commons, a twenty-one meal plan with unlimited repeats is guaranteed to all the students on the meal plan.
Each student on the meal plan gains access to Commons through swiping his/her Bates One-Card. Every student on the meal plan also has six bonus meals per a school year to be used for a guest of her/his choice. Those who have misplaced or lost their card must go to Security immediately to have their card replaced. Those not on the meal plan can eat at Commons by purchasing a meal ticket at the door.
Dining Guidelines
- Do not remove dishes from Commons.
- Practice "Happy Tray" procedures by placing napkins in the napkin bin, silverware in the silverware tray and turning glasses upside down on the conveyor belt to the dish room.
- Shoes and shirts are required.
- No food games.
- No pets allowed.
- Access to Commons is limited to those students who have the proper identification card and to guests who purchase individual meals or have been granted access by students using a guest pass. Students who give their ID card to another person, share meals with someone not on the meal plan, carry food out of the dining hall or otherwise create a disturbance therein may be subject to fines, loss of dining privileges or the performance of community-service hours in Dining Services, as determined by the Dean of Students Office.
- If you are part of a group that is seeking food for an off-campus activity you must contact the Catering Office in Commons (786-6298 or ddesrosi@bates.edu ) Please allow at least 24 hours notice on these activities.
